Hello class

I've decided to make another blog. This one is meant for me to show and turn in my IMD work, but there are some things I do outside of class that I want to keep in a different location... keeping everything organized I suppose. Here is the link to my design blog. Check it out if you would like to or have spare time.

Adios mis amigos!

Rawr.

Dinosaur? Not really... I'm not really sure what it is actually.

Maybe it's a dragon.

Castle Video #2

The waves are animated as well as Camera #1. I still have a lot to work on with this model including textures and whatnot. I want to fix some of the land... I don't like the way it looks.

What do you guys think?
Post a comment.

Castle updates and Audio Production Q&A

Well, I worked on my castle more today. I fixed the problems with the textures on the back (I forgot to get a screen shot of the problem so I can't show you what was going on). I also added a stained glass window and two wooden doors. I may put small windows on the towers, not sure yet.
Oh, and I apologize now for the not-so-dynamic screen shot. Where the water and sky meet in the pic are bothering me but the only other picture I have of the new features on the castle lacks the door on the side. It has a better vantage point, but I'm trying to show what I've accomplished... so here she be:

1.What range of frequencies are detectable to the human ear?
20Hz – 20kHz

2. Define Audio
Audio means “sound”. It specifically refers to the range of frequencies detected by the human ear.

3. Audio production involves what four elements of audio?
Production, recording, manipulation and reproduction of sound waves.

4. List 10 careers in audio and list a local company for six of the career fields
- Studio sound engineer

- Live sound engineer

- Musician

- Music Producer

- DJ

- Radio Technician

- Film/Television Sound Recordist

- Field Sound Engineer

- Audio Editor

- Production Audio Creator

5. List three careers that need to have an understanding of audio production concepts
- Video Camera Operators

- Micing up drum kits

- Creators of synthetic sound effects

7. What is a waveform
The sound wave curves on a x vs y graph are called waveforms.

8. Is sound two dimensional or three dimensional?
Sound is three dimensional.

9. How do variations in sound pressure correlate to a waveform diagram?
High sound pressure shows the waveforms densely packed together on the diagram.

12. Define transducer
A device that converts energy from one form into another.

13. Define amplifier
A device which takes a signal and increases it’s power.

14. Define signal processor
Devices and software which allow the manipulation of the signal in various ways.

Working on the castle's textures

Big difference, huh?
Well, today I obviously did a lot. In my opinion my castle looks great with the new textures... what do you think? I was having some problems and I've fixed most of them, but there are a few things on the back of the castle I have to work with tomorrow. It's coming along really well though. Tomorrow I have to finish up the audio questions and post them and hopefully I'll be able to work on my spaceship's textures a bit.

White Castle

... is not a restaurant.
Well it is... just not in this case.
Or maybe it is... I can't really tell what's inside but it's white and castle shaped, so White Castle it is:

What have you learned about 3D Modeling?
Everything I know at the moment is very basic stuff, but it is all new. Everything you see in the castle pictures is everything I have learned to date. Making ripples and shapes and fitting them together.

What has been your biggest challenge in 3D?
Learning 3D in general. It's new and I sometimes have problems with that, but I'm used to it and I like it a lot now that I'm passed the basics.

What would you do differently if you were to do your castle model over again?
I would probably make the land connecting to the bridge smoother, I think it's too lumpy. Hills are okay, but it's just too much in that area. I probably would have done the mountains differently, I would have stretched them out more.

Was your research sketch helpful?
Yes, I tried to base my castle mostly on the image and changed small things here and there.

My thoughts:
I'm liking 3DS, I like being able to model my imagination into a 3D image. I feel that I have a lot of potential when it comes to learning this program, and I plan to use it in the future in projects my friends and I make. Kyle will definitely want some stuff modeled for his games and movies and I will want to do some modeling for my own films. I just want to make sure I can do it well enough before I add it into my films because bad CGI can really ruin a good movie... like James Cameron's upcoming movie 'Avatar'. It is largely composed of CGI and from the trailer I think it looks terrible. Hopefully it isn't the final render. I know Speed Racer had unfinished CGI in it's trailer.
Now I'm just rambling.
Goodbye.

Castle pictures

So yeah, I've been working on my castle. I'm pretty much done with it until I add textures and whatnot. I think it turned out pretty good, it looks a lot like my sketch so I'm happy with it. Here are a few screen shots of Le Castle de Schoolcraft:

I bet Kyle Monroe will like this.
Now I'm off to take a lap around the school building.

3D Studio Max - First few days

I love 3D Studio Max, it's fun and basically has endless possibilities. I'm just starting out but I'm very excited to begin molding more complicated things. So far for class I've made a few things, here are pictures of two:

A simple weight-thing

Staircase

And just for fun I've been messing around, here is a little project I started myself and plan to make better as I progress:

Mario-World Shot 1

Mario-World Shot 2

By the way, viewcubes are annoying. I don't use them.

The First Post.

Well there I was, sitting at home working on my blog when I realized something was missing... The First Post. Yes, I realize that I began each word with a capital letter, there is a reason for that. It's a title. Everyone always posts something explaining that they don't know what to put for their first post and I, Brandon Schoolcraft, am one of those people. The First Post is a given... it has to be made on any blog to start it off.

Now, in the future I'll be posting the projects I am working on and the progress I am making, just as every IMD student will do. Looking forward to that? Me too (unless you said "no" that is). I'm just as clueless about what types of projects I will be doing as you are, it's up to Fitzer and DiMasso.

I want to get more into 3D Studio Max though. I want to learn to integrate it into video so I can make things like ghosts or monsters for my independent films. CGI makes the world go round. I really want to learn to add fine details to it... for example, I would like to do something along these lines:

Ghost from 'Ghostbusters Generation'

Well, that's what I'm looking forward to... I'd like to get started on it right away but I don't think we'll be doing that for a looooooong time. :(
